Maurita
Peterson Holland is an associate professor emerita in the School of
Information.
Her research interests include virtual information systems and service,
distance-independent and informal learning, and technology-assisted community
networks and programs. Holland has taught in the Honors and the Community
Scholars Programs; she currently teaches and conducts research in the ImagineNation Matters project as
part of the Interactive Communications and Simulations Group in the School of
Education.
From 1995-2005, Holland directed SI's Office of Academic Outreach and Practical
Engagement Programs, which included the Directed Field Experience, internship,
Digital Tool Kit, and Alternative Spring Break programs. She has also directed
the Internet
Public Library and the Cultural Heritage Preservation
Institute (CHPI) and a host of community-based digital projects and chaired the
faculty management committee of the Community Information
Corps.
A frequent piano recitalist in the Ann Arbor area, Holland provides annual
benefit concerts at the Kerrytown Concert House; she
also plays a number of other musical instruments...and the accordion. She has
served on the Boards of Trustees of Emerson and Greenhills
Schools in Ann Arbor. Holland is a member of the Downtown Ann Arbor Rotary Club
and a governor of the Martha Cook Building at the U-M. She is active in Detroit
area Swedish cultural affairs, is a Master Gardener, Rain Gardener and
Conservation Steward and an avid orchid grower.
